Full time, 6 year PostDoc-Position in East Asian Studies at the University of Vienna

The Chair of East Asian Economy and Society, headed by Prof. Rüdiger Frank, is offering an attractive position for a University Assistant (post doc) at the Department of East Asian Studies.

Applicants from political science (international relations, political systems, comparative politics) or economics (political economy, economic policy) whose research has a focus on East Asia or a country of East Asia (China, Japan, Korea, or Southeast Asia) are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will have a formal academic degree (either MA or PhD) in the social sciences, preferably political science or economics, in addition to a formal academic degree (at least a BA) in East Asian Studies. One of these degrees must be a PhD.

A very good command of at least one East Asian language and the ability to conduct research in that language is required. This can be Chinese, Korean, Japanese or a Southeast Asian language. The successful candidate is expected to teach, among others, courses on International Relations in East Asia and on Political Systems in East Asia, as well as an Exercise Course on Economic Systems in East Asia. Teaching will include the supervision of academic term papers. A research interest in East Asia must be demonstrated. English is a must, German is an advantage but not required.
