Frau Dr. Kim Seon Jung, Keimyung University, spricht zum Thema Do you want to speak Korean like Koreans do? Some Characteristics of the Korean Pronunciation.

There are 19 consonants in Korean. Plosives are divided into plain, aspirated, and tense, while plosives in most European languages such as German and English, are divided into voiceless and voiced. 19 Korean consonants in syllable-final position are unreleased and neutralised into 7 consonants, which is considered a significant feature of the language. Moreover, when consonants are adjacent to each other, various assimilations such as nasalisation and lateralisation, occur in Korean. However, in most European languages, no such phonological process occurs. Because of these characteristics, learners of Korean face difficulties in pronouncing Korean consonants. Today we talk about how we can learn these Korean pronunciations.
